The Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) has an opening for  Hatchery Technicians at the Neets Bay Hatchery.

The Neets Bay Hatchery is a large, remote; three species salmon hatchery located approximately 30 air miles North of Ketchikan, Alaska.  Permanent staff consists of three Fish Technicians, the Assistant Manager, Hatchery Manager, and two Maintenance Engineers.

Duties: Assist full-time staff with routine hatchery duties, including the rearing of salmon fry and smolt, assisting with fish transports, broodstock collection, eggtakes, and general site/facility maintenance.  Successful candidates will provide for transportation to and from Ketchikan, Alaska, at the beginning and end of the hiring period.  Please visit SSRAA’s Web site at http://www.ssraa.org/ for a more detailed description of Neets Bay’s various salmon enhancement efforts.

Qualifications: Some education and/or experience in fisheries, fishery biology or fish culture is preferred.  Some mechanical and boat handling experience is also preferred.  Candidates must have a strong work ethic and be willing to work in extremely inclement weather, and at remote sites.  Additionally, sound physical fitness is necessary due to the physical nature of hatchery work (i.e., ability to carry 50 pounds for distances up to 100 yards).  Employment may be contingent upon pre-employment alcohol/drug screening.  Successful applicants will be responsible for providing their own rain gear, rubber boots and gloves.

Additional Information: Neets Bay Hatchery is operated by Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA), a private non-profit regional aquaculture association.  SSRAA provides increased fishing opportunities for the common property fisheries of Southern Southeast Alaska.  Neets Bay Hatchery produces one of the largest Chum salmon returns in Southeast Alaska, along with supporting substantial Chinook and Coho salmon production programs, making this salmon hatchery one of
