Port Saint Nicholas Hatchery – Alaska Hatchery Permit #48

The Prince of Wales Hatchery Association built the Port St. Nicholas hatchery and operated it from 2004 until 2016 when SSRAA acquired the facility.  The hatchery is located next to the Craig Water Treatment Facility at mile 5 Port Saint Nicholas Road outside the City of Craig.

Current production:

  • 100,000 chinook fry from Whitman Lake for release at a netpen site in Port Saint Nicholas.
  • 500,000 chinook smolt for netpen rearing from Crystal Lake Hatchery each spring.
  • 8,000,000 chum eggs from Burnett Inlet Hatchery for incubation and transport to Port Asumcion on Baker Island.

Returning adults are harvested in common property fisheries by all user groups and provide cost recovery for SSRAA.
